For those of us who are just starting to get into mobile development, or have simply been too ignorant of other platforms, this event will contrast the motivation and approaches for getting started with Android, iOS, and WP7 development

Update: Date changed from April 26th (our regular meeting time) to May 4th - to avoid conflicting with SV JavaScript event on HTML5.

This is slightly different than what we are used to... and you are going to like it :-)

We are joining forces with a number of local communities (Java, PHP, HTML5, .Net, iOS, etc.) to put together an event with four expert speakers showcasing what it takes to develop for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 7.

This will be a perfect opportunity to check out the mobile landscape, whether you are just getting into mobile, or simply want to see what the "competition" is up to.

Here is the rough agenda for the evening:

5:30pm-6:15pm: Arrive and mingle (enjoy free food and drinks)
6:15pm-6:30pm: Announcements
6:30pm-7:15pm: Larry Lieberman on Developing for WP7
7:15pm-7:30pm: Break
7:30pm-8:15pm: Frank Maker on Developing for Android
8:15pm-8:30pm: Break
8:30pm-9:15pm: Alain "Lino" Tadros and Lance C. Bullock on Developing for iOS
9:15pm-9:30pm: Wrap-up and give-aways

You don't want to miss this one. In fact, invite your friends as well, if you want to get them excited about mobile! But hurry, as this event will sell out

Food, drinks, and give-aways are provided by our sponsors!

Please note that this event is hosted by Microsoft, at 835 Market Street (next to Westfield Mall). Thanks Bruno Terkaly!

Minor changes in plan. Due to a family emergency, Cliff will not be able to present on WP7. Larry Lieberman (also from Microsoft) will be presenting instead, and he'll go first.

I've attended a Meetup in this space, and discovered that Microsoft did _not_ provide guest Wi-Fi for the crowd. Will this sad situation be duplicated tonight, or will there be connectivity?

I was at the site last night for the PC user group that meets there, PAC-IT PRO, and its the same... MS only gives out keys to corp visitors there during the day. The WiFi is useless

But if you go to the Windows on the corridor outside, you get some signal from the WestField Mall adjacent. Its only usable at the Window.

"Regardless if the venue has wifi or not, the sponsorship of the meeting space is appreciated..."

That's the attitude of a supplicant. Look, they invite 200 engineers to give 4 hours each of their time, not out of some altruistic impulse - and that's a good thing - but to recruit people to their respective development platforms. You're engaged in a trade of your time & attention for their message.

I showed up, then left in disgust when I was fed a line about "saturating bandwidth" [cont.']

    [continued...]

The person I spoke to - Bruno of Microsoft - fed me the official message, to wit: "We're already streaming this, so we can't provide WiFi access," which was an insulting circumlocution implying either 1.) the local Microsoft network technicians in the office are incapable of providing appropriate guest bandwidth and/or securing their network or 2.) MS wants complete control over PR & comms at the event, since they're not comfortable with live tweeting in their space.

Where is the link for the video streaning??? I didn't go when I heard it was being streamed -- I thought it would be on this site since there was no email about the video streaming. Very unkind.
