Presentation

The purpose of this page is to provide general guidelines on presentations conducted at our meetings.

What we are looking for?

We are always eager to learn more about the latest developments in the Android space. This includes discussions of tools, libraries, frameworks, architecture, design patterns, industry best-practices, thought-processes, devices, and so on. We typically avoid presentations that are just straight product/service/solution pitches, since those have limited usefulness to the group as a whole. This is especially true when it comes to commercial (i.e. non-open-source) offerings. We prefer presentations that are information and not marketing-focused.

What do we need to schedule a presentation?

To schedule a presentation at one of our events, we need the following:

  • A title for the presentation. The catchier the better, as this motivates the folks to read the summary (next). Titles that start with Learn about... or Learn how to... tend to work well.
  • A short summary (or abstract) outlining the objectives and the format of the presentation. The more descriptive/interesting, the better, as this motivates the members to sign up.
  • The expected duration of your presentation - it can be as short as 5 minutes, or a long as 90 minutes (plus Q&A).
  • A short bio of the presenter(s). The more descriptive and the more related to the subject-matter, the better.
  • A list of dates that work for the presenter(s). Please keep in mind that our group prefers to meet on the last Tuesday of each month.

What happens during the presentation?

Presentations generally start around 6:50-7:00pm and run until about 9pm. Food and drinks are provided by our sponsors.

Presenters generally have access to a projector, unrestricted WiFi, and a whiteboard.

Audience generally also access to computers/laptops and WiFi, in which case they may be able to more actively participate in the presentation (hands-on). It is up to the presenter to decide if/how to involve the audience in the presentations.

The presentation may be audio/video-recorded (if mutually agreed-upon).

What happens after the presentation?

As a follow-up to the presentation, it is recommended (though not required) that presenters provide the audience with a soft-copy of the presentation material (slides and other files), which can be distributed via our group's Files section.
