The Big Picture: Learn how to develop apps for Google TV

For our January 31st event, we are extremely happy to have Christian Kurzke from Google TV team talk to us about the latest (Honeycomb) release of the platform.

First phones. Then tablets. Now TVs. Your Android app can run on all of them... if you write it carefully and follow the rules. Christian's presentation will explore what those techniques are, plus what TV-specific capabilities your application can ruthlessly exploit to your (and your users) advantage.

Food and drinks will be provided by the Linux Foundation. Be sure to stick around until the end for your chance at some cool giveaways from our sponsors.

About Christian Kurzke:
Christian is Developer Advocate for Google TV. He is also an open source enthusiast, committer in the Eclipse Foundation and has been working at the intersection of Linux and Java since the early 90s. Prior to Google, Christian worked in Motorola's Mobile Phone and Set-Top Box divisions. Before that, Christian was at SUN working on Java for Embedded Systems. He holds a Dipl. Inf. degree from University Erlangen, Germany, and an MBA from Santa Clara University. Follow him at @Cnkurzke.

I can't make it this time, so will catch it on Marakana later. Meantime, allowing a seat for a lucky peer from the waiting list :)

Hey thanks Yossi! I just got in from the wait list. Let me encourage everybody who have a reservation but aren't going to give up their spot for one of the wait-listed members of the group.

I'd appreciate if those of you who cannot make it change your RSVP to "No", so that we get a better idea of who's coming. Either way, I suggest you arrive early, if you'd like to get a seat. Otherwise, you may have to stand in the back.

And if you are still undecided about attending, consider what Eric Schmidt said at LeWeb in Paris (Dec 2011): "By the summer of 2012, the majority of the televisions you see in stores will have Google TV embedded."

I had to give up my spot, so would someone mind asking if there is any proper way to display flash video inside a GoogleTV application without just throwing it off to the browser? e.g. Display a justinTV stream inside a webview or something similar.

    Thanks!

@Sreekumar Menon There is metered street parking. Usually by the time the meeting kicks off, you no longer need to pay.

There is a mention of cool prizes at the end. Do they include developer Google TVs? Other than the discontinued Logitech unit nothing seems to be available in the market, unless one is willing to buy a brand new, yet, still unavailable, upcoming TVs.
