For our January 26th meetup we are going to take a break from the GolfCaddy application we've been building and turn our attention to Danny Roa, who generously offered to give us a behind the scenes look of his San Francisco Muni Plus application, selling for $1.99 on Android Market.
Here are some of the questions I asked Danny to address while showing us his app:
How and why did you get involved with the Android platform?
What motivated you to build a Muni app?
How did you get started? Did you get help from anyone else? Did you base your app on any existing apps out there?
What was your thought process with respect to the design of the UI? What about the app architecture?
What were some of the technical problems you ran into when building your app? How did you overcome them?
How did you go about publishing and promoting your app?
Did you enter your app in any contents (e.g. ADC) and how did you do?
What kind of a user feedback have you been getting? Is it useful? How do you interact with your users?
How do you plan to monetize your app/Android expertise?
etc.
Additionally, Danny promised to talk about:
Newbie Mistakes Made while developing for Android
Development Experience (Dev Environment, Learning Java, etc.)
Best resources to get help
Note, this meeting is taking place at our new venue sponsor: SUPINFO of San Francisco at 2738 Hyde St (between Beach and North Point Streets, near Cable Car Turntable). Big thanks goes out to Joel Marty for putting me in touch with Lisa Tenor, who will be our host at SUPINFO!
“ While I really enjoyed hearing Danny share some of his experiences of developing for Android, I was really impressed by the very insightful and useful participation from the audience. That's what this group is all about!
I just wish Danny was able to hookup his laptop to the projector and show us more code. ”
